If you have a C1 test or a CERAD course coming up, you need to know your road signs properly. We have just added a free UK Road Signs deck to SnapMedic to help with that.
It is 169 image cards built from the current Highway Code sign inventory, and it is in the app now as a Community deck.
What is in the deck
Five families of sign:
- Warning signs
- Regulatory signs
- Direction signs
- Information signs
- Road works signs
Every card shows you the sign first. You have to say what it means before you turn it over. Recognising a sign on a page is not the same as recognising it on approach.
Why road-sign recall matters for C1 and CERAD
Both your CERAD (certificate in emergency response ambulance driving) and Class 1 exams require you to know all the UK road signs.
This deck is perfect if you are planning to take either course, or are just a bit rusty. Why not use it when sat on standby or queuing outside an ED.
Flashcards work well for the signs that catch people out: the ones that look almost the same as each other, the ones you rarely see, and the ones you only place after a second or two. It is a revision aid though, not a replacement for the Highway Code, your course materials or your driving school.
How to find and study the deck
Use these labels in the current SnapMedic app:
- Open Flashcards.
- Select Community to open Community Decks.
- Search for UK Road Signs.
- Open the result and select Subscribe to Deck. If you are signed out, the button will say Sign In to Subscribe first.
- Under Available offline, select Add offline deck, then Confirm download. Wait until the status says Ready offline.
- Select Study This Deck.
- On later visits, find it under Subscribed Decks. You can also open the deck and choose Add to Daily Review or View Cards.
Download it before a course day or a run of shifts where the signal is patchy. Once it says Ready offline, the cards and images work without a connection.
Is the deck free?
Yes. You need a free SnapMedic account to subscribe to it, but the deck itself is not Pro-only.
Free accounts can subscribe to three Community decks and do 40 reviews a day. Pro takes those limits off.
Getting the most out of it
Answer before you turn the card over, then be honest with the rating: Missed, Hard, Got it or Perfect. The app uses that to decide when you see the card again, so flattering yourself just means you get the easy signs too often and the awkward ones too late.
A few settings that help:
- Set Cards per session to 10 or 20 in Flashcards Settings.
- Set New cards per day to 5 or 10. Learning all 169 in one sitting does not stick.
- Use Add to Daily Review and do a short session daily rather than one long cram the night before.
- If you half-remembered it, that is a Hard, not a Got it.
