What is an OSCE and why do paramedics practise them?

An OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is a practical assessment where clinicians demonstrate clinical skills in structured scenarios. Paramedic OSCEs typically cover patient assessment, history taking, and clinical decision making. Practising OSCEs builds confidence, reinforces systematic approaches, and prepares students and newly qualified paramedics for real-world calls and formal assessments.

How does the AI virtual patient work?

Which scenarios are included?

Scenarios cover cardiac (ACS-STEMI, Atrial Fibrillation), respiratory (Asthma, COPD), neurological (Stroke, Head Injury), trauma, paediatric (Febrile Convulsion), communication (SBAR handover), and mental health (Self-Harm Assessment). New scenarios are added regularly.

Is the AI OSCE feature free?

Free users get 1 AI session per week alongside offline checklist mode. Pro (£1.99/month) gives 3 AI sessions per week. Pro+ (£4.99/month) gives unlimited sessions with full session history.

Is AI OSCE Practice available now?

Yes. AI OSCE Practice is fully available in SnapMedic. We continue to expand the scenario library and refine the AI marking system. Feedback can be submitted directly through the app or via our Discord community.

How accurate is the AI patient?

The AI patient is designed to respond consistently with its scenario's clinical presentation. It uses a multi-model approach (GPT-4o-mini and Claude Haiku 4.5) with clinical prompt engineering to ensure realistic, medically appropriate responses. It is not a replacement for real patient contact but provides a consistent, repeatable training environment for practising history taking and assessment.

Can I use SnapMedic OSCE for HCPC CPD?

Yes. OSCE practice sessions contribute to HCPC CPD requirements under reflective practice and continuing learning. Pro+ users have access to full session history which can be used as CPD evidence. We recommend recording a short reflection after each session to document your learning in your CPD portfolio.

Is AI OSCE useful for student paramedics?

Yes. Student paramedics are our core audience. AI OSCE lets you practice clinical scenarios between university sessions and placements at any time without booking. It is especially useful in Year 2 and 3 when OSCE assessments become more frequent and complex.

I am a newly qualified paramedic (NQP) — will this help me?
